Body Assessment #11: Laura
August 26, 2008 by Valerie Waters
HI.
I am not obese, nor am I extremely overweight. I am the middle of the road, average American mother. I have those few pounds that could stay or go, but I certainly use some firming.
I have purchased the Red Carpet Plan, I purchased the Val-Slide and Band and I have just started the plan! After having read the Red Carpet plan for the 5th time. I have my kitchen restocked, my utensils bought and I am ready to go.
I weigh 127 pounds 5′ 5″ 36 years old (almost)
I am a mother of 1, and I am a Nurse Practitioner. It is important for me to practice what I preach to my patients. I have already recommended your plan to many of my women patients.
It is my INTENTION to reach my goals in six weeks of:
Less cellulite in the glutes
Adding some inches to my biceps
toning my thighs and slimming the calves.
Adding some definition where I have none.
It is also my intention to clean eat. Here in Michigan (the fattest state) we only have fresh produce available for the summer months and I am certainly taking advantage of it.
I am making myself accountable by telling all my patients that I have started the Red Carpet Plan and hoping that others will join me with your guidance in attaining a healthy lifestyle.
Please consider choosing me as a candidate for your Red Carpet Club personal assessment.
I am hoping that eventually you will have a blog spot on there where we can track our progress and post our own pictures if we are not chosen by you.
I have never done anything like this before and I am actually a bit nervous, but very excited.
Pick me!!! Pick me!!!
Thanks
Laura

Laura, you DO look great already–but I hear ya..been there, done that..fine tuning what you have will complete your story. You are so close–stick with your diet and excise that you’ve started and you will be there in no time! Good Luck!
Thanks Linda.
Thank you so much Val…
My husband and I were talking this morning about how different people look at things about themselves.
I appreciate your personal assessment and I am still plugging away with the RCR…. Today was Circut A..
On Sunday I will take new measurements as well as send new pictures. This will be my three week mark. Perhaps you can post the updated pictures.
I am not thrilled about getting up at 6:30 in the morning, but so far the results have been great.
I will keep you all posted.
Thanks again Val for your assessment and I appreciate teh advice.
Laura
Laura- you do look AWESOME! Keep up the RCR and your clean eating. I have tried the frozen veggies Val has mentioned, and she’s right, they are great. There are even some organic ones available if that is important to you! Keep us posted on your progress!
I really appreciate that you do these Val. I can see so much of myself in every single person. I’m learning a lot about myself as well as other people.
I do think that Laura looks fabulous but the key is for you to look and feel fabulous!
I’m in Denver - and have some great, easy, crockpot recipes for soups and stews that are low cal, high fiber, high vegs. Shoot me an email if you want some recipes - opengrove@gmail.com
I don’t know why my photo didn’t show…. but it’s ME!
Claudia
Hey ladies.. I was wondering if anyone had some good suggestions for exercising the abbductor muscle group? I am looking for some good at home exercises to add to the RCR plan that I am already doing. My thighs are more jiggley on the inner aspect. Since I have been doing the RCR for almost three weeks I have seen HUGE improvement on the outer thigh from all the wonderful lunges, but that inner thigh really hasn’t changed much.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Laura
Hi Claudia,
I would love some recipes to post in the RCRC!! Send them over!
Hi Laura,
I would love to see new pics when you have them. If you are not getting the results you want on your inner thigh, I have two suggestions. 1. When doing the Valslide side lunge, make sure your whole foot is on the slide and then put more pressure on the inside of the foot. You should feel this immediately. 2. When doing a glute bridge, take a kid’s plastic ball (the kind you find at the market or Target for like 2.99) and place it between your knees, squeeze it every time you get to the top and keep some pressure on it through the whole movement. Let me know how it goes.
Hi Laura (Body Assessment #11)
I am a trainer in Michigan. I have great ways to deal with food/exercise/motivational issues in MI. I would be happy to discuss them with you. I also want to mention that you will be really happy with the results you get from the type of exercise that Val recommends. Her Valslide is awesome! e-mail me if you want some tips on lovely Michigan living!

Thanks Val!!
I will start those on Monday. Tomorrow is Cardio. Sunday is the three week bench mark.. This is the day that I take meaurements and new pictures.
Any suggestions on protein shakes? I have been usign Whey. However, the post drink bloat is awful.
My pre-work Break-my fast is
One Scoop Whey
two tablespoons flax
1 tsp clove honey
1 cup soy milk
1 cup frozen berries
While I love the drink as it is not so filling I can’t work out, about an hour or so later I feel like I am going to die. The crampy bloat is awful.
Any suggestins would be appreciated.
Thanks Rachel~
I have lived in Michigan all my life. As far as motivation, well being on this RCRC as assessment is motivation for me. While I am not posting daily things, I feel that it is an honor to have been chosen and it is my intention to fufill my goals. This is motivation enough. Also I am very pleased with my RCR program and would advise anyone who wants to firm, tone and meet a great group of people to join.
Laura
Ps… Hey Val
What is the Val slide leg curl?
This is not in my RCR, well at least the first three weeks? I am enetering the next set of exercises and I did not look ahead as to make my self anxious…
It took me this long just to get e form down and breathing down for these
Hey Laura,
Just realized that you may have taken my post as me looking for a client. NOT AT ALL what I was looking for. I just meant that I have lots of ways to find the fresh foods and I freeze some of the awesome fruits and veggies that we have right now for the winter months. And…of course I continue to buy what is in season all year. From your initial correspondence to Val, it sounded like you needed help with that area. Keep it up! You look awesome!
Hey Rachel~
Sorry I did sorda take it that way.
On a previous site, it all started good and then suddenly there were people emailing you asking you to pay for their advice, and then you got all this span related to private sessions and it really was a turn off.
I don’t do much freezing of fruit, although I should consider it.. I have this huge texture thing and if it is mushy in any way, then it is not for me..
I still buy alot of fresh in the winter, it is just to bad it is not organic and it is not grown locally.
Stinks here in Michigan as there is no In season in the Winter months.
I have considered purchasing a hot house to grow just a few things in, in the winter, but I am sure it would turn out to be more a hassle.
Thanks
Laura
Hi Laura,
The Valslide leg curl are not in RCR but you will find them in the Valslide manual. You can replace either split squat or fire hydant with these. This will give you a little more direct hamstring work. You could also go slight heavier on your RDL’s. If you have a bench at home, try stepping on that instead of a smaller step. This will lift your butt a little more. You might need to adjust the reps/weight.
I am glad you focused on breathing and form first. Good job!
hi Laura! you are doing so good! that is awesome!
can’t wait to see those new pictures!!!
Mandy
Hey Laura,
No problem. I know what you mean about SPAM!
I don’t like mushy stuff AT ALL and I have had good luck with some fruits by freezing them on a cookie sheet first and then putting them in freezer safe containers or bags.
If you are getting severe bloat from the shakes, you may want to look into dairy and/or soy intolerance. I am a pro at alternatives for that type of thing. I have some food intolerance issues myself. Took me years to figure it out!
Hey ladies.. Wow what a day and I mean what a d ay..
Today my son started pre-school.. I cried, I ate 3 oatmeal cookies at Starbucks. I cried, then I missed my work out and then well you guessed it I cried..
So wow what a day… He never cried…
I am flipping around my workouts so that my cardio days are on the days he has school, this way I can run while he is at school for the 2 hours (well I won’t run that long but ya know..)
Val~
When I ordered the Valslide, there was no manual, there was the bag, the slides and the band? Will this be something maybe that is DLable?
Mandy~
I have been meaning to email you, but well even with the best intentions I’ve slidden (is that a word?)
Rachel~
I tired the soy, no help there, I am now taking an Over the counter (otc) to help with the bloat and cramps.
I am hoping that this will help.
Well back on the wagon tomorrow…
PS.. Daily motivation

Laura,
Sounds like you had quite a day. I don’t have kids, but I have a newphew that I am really close to and he is in high school now. I have cried my fair share for him, I can’t imagine what it would be like if I had my own kids!
What I meant about the soy was that you may have an intolerance to it. Many people cannot tolerate Soy, dairy, wheat, caesin (from eggs) etc. Your symptoms of bloat and cramping can be from food intolerance. Whey is derived from cow’s milk. And a ton of people have an intolerance to soy as well. Do you ever have trouble with bloating or any other symptoms from other foods?
Rachel
Laura, sorry you had just a horrible day. I am not looking forward to Nathan going to school either. I still have some time for that.
Don’t worry about missing todays workout, just get back on track with your training and nutrition tomorrow.
Have you tried BSN protein the syntha 6 is very good. it doesn’t hurt my tummy like others do. I usually have issues with shakes they make me feel full and sick this one doesn’t. They even have a coffee flavored one. yummy!
email anytime!
